Job Summary: Under limited supervision, and receiving general guidance and direction, uses skills obtained through experience and/or formal training to create and provide a safe, learning environment designed to engage students in academic, health and fitness, and enrichment activities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Creates lesson plans and implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and needs.
  •  Assists in curriculum development and program improvement.
  • Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
  • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis.
  • Collaborates with program staff and school personnel to enhance student success.
  • Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
  • Ensures that program content and lesson plans are appropriate for age group and subject area.
  • Assumes responsibility for meeting his/her course and school-wide student performance goals.
  • Maintains student records.
  • Reports on student growth/development.
  • Attend regular staff trainings, orientations, and professional development.
  • Maintain and update professional development log.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Educational processes and techniques attributed Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP)


Skill in:

  • Organization and time management.
  • Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications including Microsoft Office, Google Docs, etc.


Ability to:

  • Effectively handle competing priorities
  • Ability to prioritize and adapt to changing environment
  • To professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules. etc.
  • Partner with other agencies, departments, and school personnel as required.
  • Inspire subordinates to reach their highest performance
  • Incite enthusiasm and influence, motivate and persuade others to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Interpret and apply agency policies and identify and recommend changes as appropriate.
  • Organize, manage, and run a classroom incorporating classroom and behavior management strategies.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Handle stressful situations and provide a high level of customer service in a calm and professional manner.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.


Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum Degree Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Required Disciplines Elementary or Secondary Education


At least 2 years’ experience in an educational setting and/or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources.



  • Licenses/Certifications Required at Date of Hire:
    • Teaching Certificate
  • Training Requirements:
    • 16 clock hours of training throughout the year
    • Blood borne Pathogens training



Working Conditions:


Hours:   Hours may vary between 2pm and 6pm based on assigned school.  Some additional hours may be required.


Travel Required: 5% local travel is required


Working Environment:    Climate controlled environment during business hours
