Staff Physician (Ryan White Clinic)

Department: Community Health & Research Center
Location: Sterling Hgts, MI

Job Title:        Staff Physician (Internist / Family Medicine) 

Employment Type:       Regular Full-Time

Job Summary: Under general supervision, uses specialized knowledge in the field of Internal / Family Medicine and skills obtained through experience and/or formal training to provide competent, professional and ethical care to a designated patient population. Performs all duties and responsibilities required of a physician and provides quality and cost effective care for the designated patient population in accordance with accepted medical standards and protocols.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and treat diseases and injuries of the human internal organ systems.
  • Evaluate patients and examine them for symptoms of organic or congenital disorders and determine the nature and extent of injury or disorder, referring to diagnostic images and tests using, and using medical instruments and equipment.
  • Administers or prescribes treatments and drugs including minor surgical procedures.
  • Prepares timely and accurate medical records, charts and forms to document services provided.
  • Participates actively in the organizations quality assurance programs and continuous improvement activities.
  • Participates in meeting department fiscal and operational goals.
  • Promote personal performance quality by attending professional conferences and participating in educational programs and training sessions.
  • Operates standard office equipment and uses required software applications.
  • Shall follow the funding sources requirements and CARF standards applicable to the services you provide.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Advanced concepts, principles and practices of internal/family medicine and the human internal organ systems.
  • Prescription drug medications and drug interactions.
  • Proper medical documentation and charting techniques.


Skill in:

  • Conducting minor surgical procedures.
  • Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications, including Microsoft Office.


Ability to:

  • Listen to patients, understand symptoms and make a diagnosis or prescribe additional testing using standard medical equipment and examination techniques.
  • Assess data reflective of each patient's status and interprets appropriate information needed to identify each patient's age-specific requirements.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Handle stressful situations and provide a high level of customer service in a calm and professional manner.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization.


Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum Degree Required:
  • Medical Doctor degree
  • Required Disciplines:
    • Internist / Family Medicine




  • Licenses/Certifications Required at Date of Hire:
    • Current, valid and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Michigan; hold and maintain current, valid and unrestricted federal and state registrations to prescribe and dispense controlled substances
    • Board Certification in Internal or Family Medicine


Working Conditions:


Hours:   Normal business hours.  Some additional hours may be required.


Travel Required: none


Working Environment:    Climate controlled office environment.
