Development Officer

Department: Arab American National Museum
Location: Dearborn, MI

Job Title:        Development Officer

Employment Type:            Full-Time

Job Summary: Under general supervision, uses specialized knowledge in fund raising and development obtained through experience and/or formal training to provide support and manage activity to ensure development goals and objectives are attained.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the administration of all aspects of donor relations including cultivation, stewardship, and recognition of gift acknowledgements, print materials, and donor walls.
  • Oversee all gifts, acknowledgements, and other constituent-related information in the Development donor database.
  • Assist in the execution of all direct mail and online fundraising appeals. Oversee all corresponding actions including thank you letters, invoices, sponsorship follow up, and database updates.
  • Monitor all financial contributions and donations and ensure accuracy of records, receipts, and databases.
  • May oversee individual ticket sale process for major fundraising events, including but not limited to ACCESS Annual Dinner, AANM Gala, and Domestic Violence Dinner.
  • Provide Development Department reporting – donor reports, fund analysis, statistical reporting – as required.
  • May carry donor profile, including local businesses. May also assist with major donors as assigned.
  • May design and develop program concepts for funding, including, but not limited to, programs serving youth and young adults
  • May develop communications, online and in print, telling the story of ACCESS to donors.  This may include appeals, e-appeals, e-communications and the website.
  • May troubleshoot issues with donor database to ensure software is functioning properly.
  • May train others in donor database use (may include preparing queries, exporting information, running reports, etc.).
  • May set up, maintain and analyze all organizations merchant accounts.
  • May conduct Annual Employee United Way and Annual Fund campaign.
  • May reconcile allocations in donor database vs. allocations in Fiscal department to ensure consistency.
  • May make travel arrangements for employees within the organization as needed.
  • May create and review all content for special event marketing.
  • Maintain currency in fundraising and development techniques.
  • Operate standard office equipment and use required software applications.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Intermediate concepts, principles and practices of fundraising/development.
  • Donor relations and stewardship.
  • Knowledge of database architecture and development.
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge and Patrons Edge software a plus.

 

Skill in:

  • Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Operating Raiser’s Edge database system helpful.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum Degree Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Required Disciplines:
    •  Business, Marketing, Public Relations or a related field

  • At least two years development or business experience with a track record of successfully meeting goals or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources.

Working Conditions:

 

Hours:   Normal business hours.  Some additional hours may be required.

 

Travel Required: Local travel may be required.
