Child/Adult Psychiatrist

Job Summary: Under limited direction from a senior level manager, the Psychiatrist uses specialized knowledge in the field of medicine and skills obtained through experience and/or specialized training to administer psychopharmacology benefits to patients of the Community Health and Research Center. Performs peer review functions to other psychiatrists in the department as well as provides competent, professional and ethical care to a designated patient population. Acts as a consultant to the clinical staff, medical assistants, program managers, quality assurance manager and the Director of the Community Health and Research. Performs all duties and responsibilities required of a psychiatrist and provides quality and cost-effective care for the designated patient population in accordance with accepted medical standards and protocols.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administer psychopharmacology and direct care to behavioral health patients
  • Develop medication policies and procedures in accordance with accepted medical standards and protocols, accreditation and funding source guidelines in conjunction with the Quality Assurance Manager and the Director of the Community Health and Research Center
  • Provide consultation to clinical staff regarding patients and psychopharmacological treatments
  • Participate in treatment team conferences which may include other professionals, family members and referral sources
  • Document all services in compliance with the agency’s quality assurance plan
  • Report on program progress at required intervals per funding guidelines
  • Conduct in-service education and professional development to Mental Health department staff
  • Engage in research activities that promote the knowledge and capabilities of the department and the mental health field
  • Participate regularly in monthly department meetings including clinical case conferences and quarterly staff meetings
  • Maintain agency confidentiality and client’s privacy in accordance to the agency’s policies and procedures
  • Maintain currency in the field of psychiatry and psychopharmacology
  • Follow the funding sources requirements and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) standards applicable to the services provided
  • May translate and interpret information for non-English speaking clients, as needed
  • Operate standard office equipment and use required software applications
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Diagnostic Criteria from the DSM-5
  • Advanced concepts, principles and practices of psychiatric medical practices, treatments and techniques
  • Prescription drug medications and drug interactions
  • Proper medical documentation and charting techniques
  • Biological, psychological and sociological concepts and trends
  • Advanced concepts, practices and procedures of crisis intervention techniques
  • Community resources including social services agencies and crisis intervention providers
  • Processes, rules and regulations of various services and funding agencies surrounding the eligibility and maintenance of the services being received

Skill in:

  • Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications for program area and other applications, including Microsoft Office

Ability to:

  • Listen to patients, understand symptoms and make a diagnosis or prescribe additional testing using standard examination techniques
  • Assess data reflective of each patient's status and interprets appropriate information needed to identify each patient's specific requirements
  • Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Partner with other functional areas to accomplish objectives
  • Attend to detail while maintaining a big picture orientation
  • Organize and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Handle stressful situations and provide a high level of customer service in a calm and professional manner
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Speak and write in English
  • Interpret, speak and write in Arabic is preferred
  • Maintain confidentiality of agency and client information

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum Degree Required:
    • Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy
  • Required Disciplines:
    • Psychiatry

  • At least 3 years of direct clinical services and psychopharmacology to mental health clients (adults, adolescents and children)
  • Prior experience providing psychopharmacological consultation and direction to other professionals is preferred
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training approved by Human Resources

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Licenses/Certifications Required at Date of Hire:
    • Board Certification in Psychiatry and Neurology

  • Board Certification in Adult, Adolescent and Child Psychiatry

Working Conditions:

Hours: Normal business hours, some additional hours may be required

Travel Required: Local travel, up to 15%

Working Environment: Climate controlled office
